Before joining the South African College of Music at UCT in September 2001, Gillian Lindner operated as Followspot Productions from offices in Cape Town, offering a full service of publicity and marketing shows, and handling corporate functions and product launches. Some of her clients have included Paul Slabolepszy and Bill Flynn, Winston Mankunku Ngozi, Mark Banks, The Baxter Theatre Centre, The Artscape Theatre Centre, On Broadway and Café Manhattan, The Comedy Warehouse, The World Cup Rugby ‘95, Holiday on Ice, The Boswell Wilkie Circus, The Russian All Stars Ice Skating Spectacular, The Moscow Circus, The Basler Ballet, Johnny Clegg & Savuka, Amampondo, The St Petersburg Ballet, Kinky Friedman and David Helfgott.
Gillian started her career as a journalist, working as chief copy editor and issue editor for The Reader’s Digest, then as chief sub and features editor for Cosmopolitan and Femina Magazines. She left journalism to become PR and Marketing Manager of the Baxter Theatre Centre. She had close links with the (then) Cape Town Symphony Orchestra, with a particular interest in the Cape Town Symphony Choir and other Cape Town choirs. After four years at the Baxter, she formed Followspot Productions, making full use of her journalistic, theatrical and musical experience
