Hochschule für Musik FRANZ LISZT WeimarAlthough the history of Western music in South Africa goes back to the 17th century, the four decades of its racially motivated use and misuse of Western music still affect research on it in South Africa.

The project, which aims to initiate a revision of how we look at the history of Western music in South Africa, comprises - apart from joint seminars for students from the Hochschule in Weimar and the SACM - the compilation of material for teaching and learning, scholarly conferences and publications, as well as various research projects of the academics involved.

The three-year project is funded by the Deutsche Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD).
